Everyone is a creator.
Let’s start from the beginning. What’s creativity?
creativity
/ˌkriːeɪˈtɪvɪti/
noun
the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness. "firms are keen to encourage creativity"
Common Misconceptions + explanation
Many believe creativity is a gift reserved for artists and geniuses, but that's not true. Creativity is a fundamental aspect of being human.
“To create is to bring something into existence that wasn’t there before. It could be a conversation, the solution to a problem, a note to a friend, the rearrangement of furniture in a room, a new route home to avoid a traffic jam.” - The Creative Act
How do I approach the creative process?
Everything starts from curiosity, curiosity leads to research and when I have the information, I can start connecting the dots. Is like solving a problem. And I like keeping the method as simple as possible.
Creativity is the mastery of connecting information.
This is the way I approach every creative project
First I recap as much information as I can from the subject, topic or business and then from there, I can start creating by always asking myself: What is the goal of this piece? And then reverse engineer from there.
Conclusion
To create first you need to live and later, use your life as inspiration.
If you are like me, you have spend the last year absorbing as much information as possible, from movies, to reading articles, books, trainings, masterclasses. All of that is fine, that helped us developed the skills needed for the craft and we will continue doing it forever because is part of our DNA, we are curious minds. But if we want to become really good creatives, first we need to live, experience, experiment and later use our life as inspiration.
To be interesting first you need to be interested. And nothing just happens from our room without exploring the world.
Note: When I create a video from scratch, I confirm that it will be a good story if I’m able to explain the idea to my wife in one line.
